Stuck in the Mud

Stuck in the Mud key of D
Gary Furr
Stuck in the mud while the Western sun beat down on the fields
We ran for help down a dirt road with four dogs at our heels
But It’s so good (good, good) to be alive
Feels so fine (fine, fine) to have arrived
I’m so glad to see your face in a smile.
Lost in the desert nobody sure just where to go
The sun is sinking and our fuel supply is running low
But It’s so good (good, good) to be alive
Feels so fine (fine, fine) to have arrived
I’m so glad to see your face in a smile.
Tangled in sagebrush, trying hard to get it done
Fell down a big hole so far I couldn’t see the sun
But It’s so good (good, good) to be alive
Feels so fine (fine, fine) to have arrived
I’m so glad to see your face in a smile.
Stuck in the house, quarantined without an end in sight
There’s no escaping each other, we’d better get this right.
and it’s so good (good, good) to be alive
Feels so fine (fine, fine) to have arrived
I’m so glad to see your face in a smile.

Nothing Between Us
Mark Weldon
I know that there is more to know about you,
But I’m stuck down here in a world where nothing’s new.
I’m too numb to feel,
Too blind to see,
Too late to run back to You.
If there’s a city on a hill, where’s the light?
If there’s prodigal return, where’s the road?
I can’t seem to strip away all that I have made
That insures that there is nothing between us.
Take it away, strip it away,
Take it all, until I fall on my knees.
I used to think I had all the answers,
And I worshiped with my lips and not my heart.
I never realized I had spent my life
Building all that lies between us.
If there’s a city on a hill, where’s the light?
If there’s prodigal return, where’s the road?
If there’s a way to strip away all that I have made
That insures that there is nothing between us.
Take it away, strip it away,
Take it all, until I fall on my knees.

If I Only Had One

If I Only had One
Gary Allison Furr October 11, 2018 revised Novber 28, 2018
If I only had one more prayer to pray,
I’d save that prayer for you
I’d quit asking God to show me what I already know to do
If I only had one more second chance I wouldn’t hesitate
I’d find the woman whose heart I broke
and hope that it’s not too late.
CHORUS:
If I only had one it would clear up all my confusion
If I only had one I could see through my delusions
If I only had one last road not taken, I’d take that road and run
If I only had one
If I only had a few words left to say, wouldn’t waste ‘em on hate and lies.
I’d offer up a blessing to light up my granddaughter’s eyes.
When I picked up my last paycheck I wouldn’t waste it on things I don’t need.
I’d my debts and give all the rest on something to live after me.
CHORUS:
If I only had one it would clear up all my confusion
If I only had one I could see through my delusions
If I only had one last road not taken, I’d take that road and run
If I only had one
If I only had one last day to live, I’d spend it with people I love.
I’d share all the feelings in my heart until each one had had enough.
When they ask if I have any last requests
I’ll send for my enemy.
I’ll offer him forgiveness and ask the same for me.
CHORUS:
If I only had one it would clear up all my confusion
If I only had one I could see through my delusions
If I only had one last road not taken, I’d take that road and run
If I Only had one

Doors of the Heart

Doors of the Heart
M. Weldon
I see glimpses of heroics
Silent fanfares resonate deep inside me
You bear witness to your courage,
Carpe Diem is your battle cry
I hear children’s happy voices,
As I pass the playground heading home
May their delight in playing together
never sink, never die
Refrain:
Throw wide the doors, Throw wide the doors,
Throw wide, wide the doors of my heart
Old and weathered children of God,
Going to and fro on chairs with wheels
Never mind their trail of vict’ries,
Their wisdom remains untold
Refrain:
Throw wide the doors, Throw wide the doors,
Throw wide, wide the doors of my heart
I can’t see you but I know you’re there
Your quiet life wrapped tight in a cocoon
Shout out your name, send up the flares
So we can find you, and love you again
Refrain:
Throw wide the doors, Throw wide the doors, Throw wide, wide the doors of my heart

Some Things Don’t Need Saying
Gary Furr (guitar capo 2 play in C)
Some things don’t need saying
I can see it on your face
A knowing glance across the room
We connect without a trace
Chorus
Some joys don’t need shouting
Some smiles are never on display
Some messages delivered without a big parade
You’re sitting in the nighttime
You tell me that you just can’t sleep
But troubled thoughts are your companions
You pray the Lord your soul to keep
Some prayers don’t need prayin’
Your face just says it all in tears
You call to heaven with a sigh
But I’m just full of fear.
Bridge:
It’s always been our way
To let each other be
But something you’re ashamed to say
Is terrifying me
I’m wondering in the silence
About your heart tonight
You’re looking down while I’m talkin’
your lips are drawn and tight.
Some things don’t need sayin’
But then again, some things do.
This secret is a prison
Keeping me from you.
Maybe I can’t take it,
But then again, maybe I can
Come over here and tell me,
We’ll (Let’s) see what love can stand

From Here to Okay
Gary Allison Furr
1. I was telling my favorite story when I heard a knocking sound
It was my neighbor. He said, "You'd best sit down"
I never finished that story. I'll never tell it again.`
The clock on the wall said 7:10.
2. I’m lost and so angry. She’s just sad all the time,
The shadows go with us everywhere.
Now and then for a while we still act like we used to,
But we still can’t move that empty chair.
CHORUS:
It’ll be a long time before we put it behind us
Please, just sit with me. There’s nothing to say.
Walk with me a while in the valley of grey
It’s a long way from here to okay
So thank you so kindly for asking about us
And for the fine food that you brought
But please take with you the reassuring words you offered,
It’s not easy answers I’ve sought
Some cope with a bottle, and others with a pill,
Some sit in a circle and pray for God’s will,
But nothing on earth fills the hole left inside
By a love that was once so alive.
CHORUS:
It’ll be a long time before we put it behind us
Please, just sit with me. There’s nothing to say.
Walk with me a while in the valley of grey
It’s a long way from here to okay

Cold Hard Cash in Your Pocket
Gary Furr, copyright 2005
He promised her, but he never said when
he promised her, but he never said when
he had no friends, worked night and day,
He never saw her drive away.
He promised her, but he never said when
Chorus:
And somewhere in the midst of it
Is where it comes apart
That’s cold, hard cash in your pocket
And a hole in the middle of your heart
You’re damned if you don’t and you’re damned if you do
You’re damned if you don’t and you’re damned if you do
She loved him for the life they made
She left him because of the price he paid.
You’re damned if you don’t and you’re damned if you do
Chorus
Instrumental break
Chorus
He promised her, but he never said when
He promised her, but he never said when
He promised her, but he never said when

The Rememberer

The Rememberer
Gary Allison Furr, April 15, 2019
To a man in a hurry, she’s an old lady driver
a Lincoln Town car getting in his way.
Strangers look right through her In the rush to be somebody,
Assume she doesn’t have much to say/
But she’s the best friend of her Ladies class
She writes them cards when they’re sick
and remembers each of them in prayer
She keeps up with birthdays anniversaries and losses,
When a listening ear is needed, she is there,
CHORUS:
She’s the rememberer
Their stories and treasures she keeps,
Deep in her heart and her prayers
When she lies down to sleep
When she was a young girl, a young man paid attention and
saw the future in her deep blue eyes.
She raised babies safe from fear
Made decent people of them
And gave them confidence to try.
She set the dinner table as long as she was able
Went to graduations and ballgames
She kept all their memories in scrapbooks that she labeled
carefully with every person’s name.
CHORUS:
She’s the rememberer
Their stories and treasures she keeps,
Deep in her heart and her prayers
When she lies down to sleep
Now the people that she prayed for and the family that she lived for
have come back home to say farewell
They’ve forgotten names and faces
And unimportant places
but not the stories they came to retell.
Her heartrate is slowing, they all know the time is close,
But she smiles when she opens her eyes
Now it’s their turn to remember
And from this time forever
They’ll tell the stories they all memorized
CHORUS:
Now they’re the rememberers
Her stories and treasures they keep,
Deep in their hearts and their prayers
When she lies down to sleep

Every Time I Think of You
Gary Allison Furr
(for all who every prayed for me)
I tried to fly above the angels
With nothing but self-centeredness
But I only found the way to heaven
From wandering in the wilderness
I took this road a long time ago
without knowing where it went
when I thought I’d lost my way,
I felt the prayers you sent
CHORUS:
I thank God when I think of you
You are a gift to me
Of faithfulness and hope and love
and generosity
For all my sins and weaknesses
I now feel gratitude
Without them I might never have known
How much I needed you.
CHORUS:
I thank God when I think of you
You are a gift to me
Of faithfulness and hope and love
and generosity
When fear and anger silence truth,
and mercy is ridiculed as weak,
I remember you still pray for me
And I find my voice and speak.
CHORUS:
I thank God when I think of you
You are a gift to me
Of faithfulness and hope and love
and generosity
I thank God when I think of you
You are a gift to me
